Silk & Paper Marbling Workshop

Turkish / Suminagashi Marbling

We will apply acrylic paint, using broom-straw brushes and applicator bottles, to a thickened water base, creating marbled surfaces and printing them; the workshop will explore the many design patterns of this elegant art form. After creating these swirling patterns of colors, each participant will print their own 15 x 45 inch silk scarf.

We will learn the traditional grinding of ink sticks, and also practice a more modern method of applying ink using Boku Undo liquid inks, in lotus bowls using sumi brushes.  After creating fascinating concentric circle patterns, we will then make prints of the designs on large sheets of rice paper.
